Winter Bornholm toughness: cold coastal wind, dark miles, and a punchy island ultra feel.
Salomon Hammer Trail Winter 64.98 km (marketed as the 63K distance) is a winter coastal trail race held each January on Bornholm island, Denmark, looping around the Hammershus–Slotslyngen–Hammerknuden headland on Bornholm's north coast. The 2026 edition ran on January 31; the 2027 edition is expected in January 2027. The course covers approximately 64.98 km with a provisional 1,667 m of gain (~25.7 m/km) Conditions define the race: the 2026 edition ran at −2.5°C with icy cliffs and 'a particularly fresh Baltic wind' — consistent with the event's own claim of being Denmark's hardest trail run. Mandatory gear includes a quality headlamp (200 lumens minimum), survival blanket, and whistle. The 2026 edition attracted a record 773 participants from 17 nationalities across all distances. Entry costs approximately €1.40/km (700 DKK at the final fee tier). Bornholm Airport (RNN) is 29 minutes from the start. The 64.98 km is UTMB-indexed and served as the 2023 Danish Championship long trail distance. It suits competitive winter trail runners seeking a Baltic island racing experience in genuine January conditions — this is not a race with a weather disclaimer.
