Kaiser Mountains drama: jagged limestone, punchy climbs, and postcard singletrack around Ellmau/Scheffau.
Kaiserkrone Trail 56.1 km is a loop trail race held on June 27, 2026, circumnavigating the Wilder Kaiser limestone massif in Tyrol, Austria. The course covers 56.1 km with approximately 3,640 m of gain (~65 m/km), tracing technical Alpine singletrack through the Kaisergebirge, passing the Stripsenjochhaus hut at 1,575 m and the Hintersteinersee lake, and reaching a high point of approximately 1,704 m on jagged, exposed limestone ridges. Entry costs €99 from May 2026 — approximately €1.76 per kilometre. Innsbruck (INN), Salzburg (SZG), and Munich (MUC) are all within 71 minutes to two hours by road. Racing since 2021 (originally 2017; COVID-era pause), the race has grown from 88 finishers in 2024 to 107 in 2025 (+22%). Both the Ultra 56k and Skyrace carry UTMB Index status. June is the wettest month at Wilder Kaiser — ~60% daily rain probability and slippery limestone underfoot. Slots available for 2026. Suits technically confident Alpine runners comfortable on exposed, wet limestone seeking a UTMB qualifier within reach of three central European airports.
