Taliharja Vanakuri Winter Ultra Endurance Race 100.9 km is a winter forest ultra held each January in Southern Estonia, running point-to-point through boreal forest and bog between locations that change each year. The 2027 edition is expected on January 9 at Viisuküla. The course covers 100.9 km with 996m of gain (9.9 m/km) — one of the lowest elevation densities of any 100km+ race in the DTR database.
At 45.7% flat with distance-weighted average gradients of 4.8% uphill and −4.8% downhill, this race tests endurance, cold tolerance, and navigation rather than climbing ability. The course is vaguely marked; map and GPS are mandatory. It can be completed on foot, on skis, or by bicycle, with the same entry fee for all disciplines. A noon start means runners hit darkness within hours; with a 24-hour time limit, more than half the race runs in full darkness. Entry costs €0.84/km (€60–85 depending on registration window). Tartu Airport (TAY) is 25 minutes away; Tallinn (TLL) is 3–4 hours — the race is flagged FAR. Running since 2019, the 2025 edition drew 138 finishers with course records of 9:54:08 (men, Linnus) and 11:51:15 (women, Umb). It suits endurance runners who want to test themselves against distance, darkness, and cold rather than altitude.
