The Transylvania 100 – 50km packages an extreme alpine profile into the event's entry-distance slot. From Moieciu de Sus in Romania's Brașov County, the course climbs the Carpathian massif with almost no recovery terrain: flat percentage ranks 37th out of 390 European ultras (top 9.5% most mountainous), and the biggest single-climb segment ranks 41st for ascent scale (636m rise, top 10.5%). Official D+ is 3,320m over 50km — 66.4m per kilometre — with a GPX-confirmed single descent of 1,379m at -16.7% average gradient, one of the largest absolute drops in the database for any distance.
Average uphill gradient ranks 67th (top 17% steepest). ITRA certification is held; entry requires a minimum prior trail run of 20km with 500m D+ — road events do not qualify. Brașov-Ghimbav airport (GHV) is 30 minutes by car, with Wizz Air connections available. Entry ran to €90 for 2026. Three distances share the Moieciu de Sus start, near Bran Castle in the Bran Valley, and the race has run annually since 2014.
