The Salomon Hammer Trail Winter marathon distance (43.3 km / 1,880m D+) is one of six distances at 'Danmarks hardeste traillobslobet' -- Denmark's hardest trail race -- held in late January on the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. The course runs the granite terrain of north Bornholm: Hammershus (Scandinavia's largest medieval castle ruin and Denmark's most visited landmark), the Hammerknuden headland, and Slotslyngen coastal forest.
Unlike the 50-mile field departing at 06:00 in winter darkness, the marathon distance starts at 10:00 into full January daylight. January conditions: 0-4 degrees C air temperature with Baltic wind chill, frequent rain or sleet, and ice on granite surfaces. Entry for 2026: 600 DKK / approximately EU1.80/km (2027 pricing not yet confirmed). Bornholm Airport (RNN) is 29 minutes from the start. Reaching Bornholm from Copenhagen requires ferry (1.5 hrs) or connecting flight (45 min). Next edition: approximately January 2027. ITRA: 2 points.
