Swiss Canyon Trail 53 km is the shortest ultra at the Swiss Canyon Trail event in Val-de-Travers, Neuchâtel — first run in 2018 and now the fastest-growing distance at the event, with finishers up 71.2% between 2023 and 2025. The course covers 52.7km with 2,632m D+ (49.9m per kilometre), reaching the Le Soliat viewpoint (1,463m) above the Creux du Van cirque rather than the Chasseron summit shared by the longer distances.
Terrain is Pre-Alpine and canyon: Jura ridgelines, Areuse gorge sections, and average descent gradients ranking 93rd of 390 European trail races on the inverted scale — steeper on average than both the 83km (114th) and the 115km (148th). The race starts at 7:15 AM from EspaceVal in Couvet, with a 13-hour cutoff and no drop bag — the only Swiss Canyon Trail distance without one. Entry is 100 CHF standard (€2.07 per kilometre); registration for the 2026 edition closed before race day — register early for 2027. Geneva Airport (GVA) is 116 minutes from the start. ITRA 3 points.
