Trans d'Havet Ultra 42km -- officially the TDH Recoaro Marathon 42K -- is a point-to-point mountain race from Recoaro Terme to Valdagno through the Piccole Dolomiti (Small Dolomites) of Veneto, Italy. The course covers 42km with 2,700m D+, a gradient density of 64.3 m/km that places it among the steepest 42km races in the European ultra database. The distance-weighted average uphill gradient is 16.6% -- UPPER tier (15%+) and the highest in this processing batch. The 20%+ gradient band accounts for 5.5 km of uphill distance, the single largest gradient band on the course: more climbing is done above 20% than in any lower band, including 5-10% (3.8 km). Only 11.8% of the course is flat -- the lowest flat proportion in the entire batch.
The Trans d'Havet Ultra course opens at km 0.18 with the dominant climb: 7.5 km rising 1,045m at 13.9% average, with no warm-up. The race ends with its defining feature -- Descent #1 from km 28.65, dropping 1,369m over 12.4 km (-11.1% average) into Valdagno. The final 14km is one sustained descent. Between opening climb and final descent, the course navigates technical rocky ridge paths, steep wooded switchbacks, and exposed headland characteristic of the Piccole Dolomiti. The 2024 edition was affected by lightning storms during the race; official rules warn of cold, wind, rain, and snow at altitude even in July.
The 2026 edition runs on Saturday 25 July. Entry fee is EUR 60 (current tier; early-bird was EUR 30 in January). Not sold out. Medical certificate required, uploaded by July 18. Registration closes July 13. Venice (VCE) and Verona (VRN) airports are both 67 minutes away. ITRA-listed, 15th edition in 2026 (founded 2012). Not primary distance -- the flagship Trans d'Havet Ultra 80km shares the same event weekend and the Valdagno finish. An Italian sleeper: a well-established race largely unknown outside the regional Italian trail community, set in a landscape shaped by both Alpine geology and WWI history.
