Trail Demónios do Lizandro Ultra 50km: Sintra Coastal Hills in November — 1,600m D+ on €35 Entry

The Trail Demónios do Lizandro Ultra (50km) is a Portuguese trail race held in Santa Susana, São João das Lampas (Sintra), covering 50km with 1,600m of elevation gain (32 m/km) through the coastal hills and Lizandro valley of the Sintra and Mafra region near Lisbon. The race is the 2026 edition of the 5th Demónios do Lizandro event, organised by Trilho Perdido. The Ultra 50km starts at 08:00 on Saturday 7 November 2026 — a full daytime race, unlike the concurrent 100km (Trail Endurance) which starts at 22:00 on Friday 6 November and includes overnight running. Entry is €35 (standard rate); spots are unlimited and the race is not sold out. The terrain is classified as Coastal Hills: mixed forest, hillside trail, and valley paths in the wooded landscapes surrounding the Serra de Sintra.

The race starts in Santa Susana, São João das Lampas, near Sintra. From Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS): approximately 40-60 minutes by car. Take the A8 (direction Leiria/Torres Vedras) or the A21 to the Mafra/Sintra area, then follow GPS to Santa Susana, São João das Lampas, Sintra. By public transport: the Sintra railway line from Lisbon Rossio to Sintra takes ~40 minutes; from Sintra, a taxi to Santa Susana is approximately 15-25 minutes (no direct bus). Alternatively, Mafra is accessible by regional bus from Lisbon and then a short taxi. Accommodation options: Sintra (~20 min drive) for a scenic base; Ericeira (~15 min, surf town) or Mafra (~10 min, closest large town); or Lisbon city centre (~45 min drive) for the full city experience.

The Trail Endurance 100km starts at 22:00 on Friday 6 November and is an overnight race covering approximately 100km with ~2,500m D+ (~25 m/km). The Ultra 50km starts at 08:00 on Saturday 7 November — a full daytime race — covering 50km with 1,600m D+ (32 m/km). Both races start and finish in Santa Susana and share the same general terrain area; the 50km covers proportionally more elevation gain per kilometre (32 vs ~25 m/km), likely because it covers the steeper hill sections relative to its shorter distance. The 50km is the daytime choice for runners who want the Lizandro valley and Sintra coastal hill experience without overnight navigation or sleep management. The 50km runs through the coastal hills of the Sintra and Mafra region, classified as 'Coastal Hills' terrain in the DTR database. Expect a mix of valley-floor trail along the Lizandro river, hillside paths through eucalyptus and pine forest, open scrub hillside with Atlantic views, and rural farm lanes. Individual climbs range from approximately 100-350m vertical; the terrain is technically moderate — loose root and rock on steeper sections, good trail surface in valley sections. November conditions in the Sintra area are mild (typically 12-18°C) with the possibility of Atlantic frontal rain. Head torches are not required (08:00 daytime start; November sunrise ~07:30 in Portugal).
