The Maratón Bandolera is the 40-kilometre distance of the 100 Millas Sierras del Bandolero, the oldest ultra race in Andalucía and one of the founding events of southern Spanish trail running. The course runs point-to-point through the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — a karst landscape in the province of Cádiz famous for its white villages, griffon vultures, and the Spanish fir forests found only in this corner of Europe.
The course accumulates 1,346 metres of elevation gain across rolling limestone terrain, finishing 400 metres lower than the start in Prado del Rey. At 33.65 metres of gain per kilometre, the Maratón Bandolera sits in the mid-range of the DiscoverTrailRaces database for vertical density — a challenge built around landscape character and accessible mountain terrain rather than extreme altitude. Organised by Club Triton since 2013, the race draws up to 500 runners in March, when Andalucía yields wildflowers and mild temperatures across the sierra. The 2027 edition runs March 5–7.
